Share Personal Stories Through Memoir Writing

Where have you been? Where are you now? Where are you going? Gain insight and personal discovery as you examine your life history. Learn to understand and appreciate others and their life stories.

Guided Autobiography (GAB) is a memoir writing class designed to help people document their life stories. We are living through extraordinary times, and telling our stories of times past and present becomes a powerful process of self-discovery that can lead to a greater appreciation of one's own life and the lives of others.

Musings on Memoir Writing: Why Do We Write

  • To create a powerful legacy of your life story as a gift to family, friends, and colleagues

  • To reassemble a life-size jigsaw puzzle

  • To recognize that stories can be complicated

  • To facilitate personal growth and move forward with new life goals

  • To assist in the transition from one life stage to another

The GAB

You want to write your life story but don’t know how to start. Or maybe you started, but got stuck and put it aside. If this is you, then Guided Autobiography is for you. The GAB process offers an easy-to-start way to record your personal life story authentically and creatively.

In this class, participants are led through themes and priming questions each week and then write 2 pages on that week's theme. We share our writing each week in our Zoom meetings.

People who think they can't write are surprised at how well they do when they are writing about their own life. Although this is designed as personal writing, many GAB participants have gone on to publish their own stories.

Barbara finds joy and discovery in writing and loves sharing her insights with others on their own paths to self-discovery.
